Summary
You can use much of this app without an account at all. We ask for a Google sign-in only so your progress follows you between devices, and so you can subscribe.
This is the one app in our catalogue that collects personal data, because it has accounts and a subscription. We would rather state that plainly than bury it.
If you use the pronunciation practice, your recording is sent to a speech service in Luxembourg so it can be turned into text. Nothing else you do sends audio anywhere.
We never sell your information, and we never share it for anyone else’s advertising. You can delete everything at any time by emailing us, and we respond within 30 days.
One thing worth knowing: playing a live radio station connects you straight to that broadcaster, so they see your connection just as they would if you opened their stream in a browser. The stations are named in full below.
Data safety at a glance
These are the same answers declared in the Google Play "Data safety" form for this app.
- Data collected by us
- Yes — account details, purchase history, voice recordings during use, and diagnostic logs
- Data shared
- Voice input is sent to Sproochmaschinn.lu for processing. Advertising data is collected by Google AdMob.
- Encrypted on the way
- Yes — everything is sent over an encrypted connection
- Can you delete your data
- Yes — request account deletion by email; processed within 30 days
Other companies involved
Every outside company this app relies on, what it does for the app, and what it can see.
Google — sign-in and saved progress
Google LLC
Handles sign-in, stores your study progress and premium record, and streams the audio and images used throughout the app.
What they can see
- Your Google account name, email address and profile picture
- Your study progress, streak, daily goal, and any answers or questions you write yourself
- Standard diagnostic information attached to sign-in requests
This is collected by Google LLC, not by us, and is governed by its own policies.
Google Play — subscriptions
Google LLC
Processes the yearly premium subscription. Google Play is the authoritative source for whether your subscription is active; we never see or store your payment details.
What they can see
- Purchase and subscription history for this app
This is collected by Google LLC, not by us, and is governed by its own policies.
Sproochmaschinn.lu — Luxembourgish speech
Sproochmaschinn.lu
Generates Luxembourgish speech from text, and transcribes the audio you record in the accent checker. Audio is sent over an encrypted connection for processing and is not retained by us.
What they can see
- Text submitted for speech generation
- Audio you record while using the accent checker
This is collected by Sproochmaschinn.lu, not by us, and is governed by its own policies.
Luxembourgish radio stations
RTL Radio Lëtzebuerg, Eldoradio and Radio 100,7
Provide the live radio you can listen to in the app. Pressing play connects your phone directly to that station’s own stream, exactly as opening it in a browser would, so the station sees the connection. We do not tell them anything about you, and we are not told what you listened to.
What they can see
- Your IP address, and the fact that a device connected to the stream
- Whatever their own player logs record, which is theirs rather than ours
This is collected by RTL Radio Lëtzebuerg, Eldoradio and Radio 100,7, not by us, and is governed by its own policies.
Google AdMob — advertising
Google LLC
Shows the ads that support the free tier. Subscribers see no ads at all. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you are asked to make a choice about personalised advertising before any ad is requested.
What they can see
- Your device’s advertising ID — a resettable number, not your name
- IP address, and approximate location derived from it
- Device information such as model, operating system and language
- Ad interaction data
This is collected by Google LLC, not by us, and is governed by its own policies.
Information we collect
- Account information
- When you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture. This identifies your account so your progress and premium status are available on any device you sign in on.
- Purchase history
- If you subscribe, Google Play Billing tells us that a valid subscription exists for your account. We never receive or store your card details or billing address.
- Voice recordings
- The pronunciation practice asks you to read a sentence aloud so it can compare you against a native example. Your recording goes to a Luxembourgish speech service, which turns it into text and sends the result back. This is the only feature that sends audio off your phone, and it only happens when you press record. We do not keep your recordings — the most recent one stays on your own phone so you can play it back, and it is replaced the next time you record.
- Device diagnostics and log data
- Standard diagnostic and log information associated with requests, used to keep the app working and to investigate faults.
- Study progress
- Which topics you have completed, your practice streak, your daily goal, and any answers or practice questions you write yourself — so your progress is there again when you reopen the app or change phones.
We do not collect your contacts, your location, your photos, your calendar, or the contents of other apps.
One thing about the practice pictures, since it is fair to know: the images in the picture-description exercises are AI-generated illustrations supplied with the app. They are not taken from your phone, and they do not show real, identifiable people or places.
Permissions
- Microphone
- Used exclusively to provide pronunciation feedback in the accent checker. The app does not record in the background and does not listen at any other time. Denying this permission leaves every other feature fully usable.
- Notifications
- Used for daily study reminders and motivational prompts. Optional, and you can turn them off in Android settings or in the app.
- Internet and network state
- Used to sign in, sync progress, stream audio and radio, generate speech, and load advertisements. Audio you have already played is cached and replays offline.
Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising purposes. Data is shared only with the service providers listed in the third-party section above, and only to the extent each one needs in order to do its job — Firebase to store your account and progress, Google Play to validate a subscription, Sproochmaschinn.lu to process speech, and Google AdMob to serve advertisements in the free tier.
Data retention and account deletion
Your account data is retained while your account exists, so your progress and premium status are preserved. You can delete it at any time:
- Email us with the subject line "Delete My Account" from the address associated with your account.
- We process deletion requests within 30 days of receipt.
- Deletion removes your account record, study progress and premium record from our systems.
- Voice recordings sent to the speech service are processed for transcription and are not retained by us.
- One thing is kept: the record of any subscription payment. Tax and accounting law requires records of financial transactions to be retained, so those remain — but they are no longer linked to an active profile once your account is gone.
- Anything you write on your phone — your own practice questions and edited answers — stays on that phone. Signing out removes it from that device.
Consent, GDPR and regional rights
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right to access, correct, export and erase your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. Luxembourg’s authority is the Commission nationale pour la protection des données (CNPD).
- Withdraw or change advertising consent in the app under Account → Privacy Settings.
- Request access to or deletion of your data by email; we respond within 30 days.
- Reset or delete your advertising ID from Settings → Google → Ads on your device.
- Subscribe to remove advertising entirely — subscribers see no ads at all.
Children’s privacy
The app does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. It is intended for adults preparing for a citizenship language examination. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Everything the app sends or receives travels over an encrypted connection. We never hold your password — signing in goes through Google — and we never see your card details. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold to the minimum the app needs, and we fix problems promptly when we find them.
Your rights and choices
- Use the app without an account for the features that do not require one.
- Revoke the microphone permission at any time; only the accent checker depends on it.
- Turn off study notifications in the app or in Android settings.
- Request a copy of your data, or its deletion, by email.
- Manage or cancel your subscription from the Google Play Store at any time.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app. Continued use of the app after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
Not affiliated with the INL or the Luxembourgish government
Sproochentest is an independent learning tool built to help people prepare for the Luxembourgish language exam. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Institut National des Langues or the Luxembourgish government.
Everything the app says about the exam format and curriculum comes from publicly available information published by the INL at inll.lu, which remains the authority on exam schedules and regulations. Check there for anything official.

Want your account deleted? Google Play requires that to be a page of its own, and it sets out exactly what is removed, what has to be kept, and how long it takes: how to delete your account.
The terms of use are a separate document. This policy covers your information; the terms cover the agreement between us — read the Sproochentest terms of use.
