Where each figure comes from
One division, written out, so the answer can be checked rather than trusted.
Every conversion goes through square feet. The amount becomes square feet using the value for the unit you have, then comes back out using the value for the unit you want. That is one table to be right about rather than a grid of pairs, and it is why the answer is the same whichever direction you ask in.
In Bihar, one gaj is 9 square feet and one katha is 1,361.25 square feet — so 9 ÷ 1,361.25 = 0.006612.
The values it divides were not written for this page. They were generated from the Android app’s own source and checked against that app’s tests, and so was the way each number is printed — the digit grouping, the two decimals above one, the switch to significant figures below it. Someone holding the phone beside this page is comparing two printed lines, not two quantities, so both had to come across.
This is a reference, not a legal measurement. Local practice varies below the level of a state, and a registry office or a surveyor is what settles a boundary. Use it to understand a listing, not to sign one.
Why there is a row per region
A unit is not always one size
The reason this page is a table and not a single number.
Katha means different things in different places. Across the regions listed above it runs from 600 square feet at its smallest to 3,645 at its largest — one word, for plots that are not the same size.
A converter that picks one of those quietly is not being approximate. It is being wrong for most of the country, and wrong in a way nobody can see: the answer looks exactly as confident as a right one. So this page prints every value it holds instead of choosing one for you, and each row names the square-feet figure its answer was built from, so you can check it against a document rather than take it on trust.
